Edward Red Leaf Hara Phone: (405)744-4544 Degree: Oklahoma State University - B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Minor: Japanese Degree: Haskell Indian Junior College - Associate of Arts in Business Education My name is Edward Red Leaf Hara. I am here to assist Dr. Miller and Dr. John with finding and training tomorrow’s life science scientist. I have an involved background with academic student organizations and Native American recruiting. I believe lifetime continued education is important for the individual and is important for society. I am a Ponca Navy Brat. My father, Guamanian with Japanese ancestry, was a career sailor. My mother, Ponca, was a career homemaker rearing me, my brother and my sister. Growing up, I thought everybody moved every two years. When I graduated from high school, I had made 16 school changes from kindergarten to 12th grade and had traveled through 41 of the 50 states. We lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Rhode Island, California, and Hawaii. Our travels included the countries of Mexico, Canada, Japan, and the island of Guam. My immediate interests, amongst many, are reading science fiction fantasy and technical journals, planning and planting this year’s garden, and doing some research on property improvement. Also, on my newly rebuilt car, I will soon go about replacing the old worn out parts with new parts. I was fortunate to meet and then make a life with a really neat woman, my wife Miwa. She is presently double majoring in Zoology and Microbiology, here at Oklahoma State University. Our son, Ibuki, is a first grader at Frontier School in Red Rock, Oklahoma. I am of the Ponca Wah Zha Zhe Clan, I war dance, and I am on this year’s Ponca Tribal Pow Wow Committee. Edward Hara |
