Dean A. Flechs
1956 - 2005

Dean Anton Flechs was born February 7, 1956, in Galveston , Texas . Mr. Flechs went on to serve in the United States Army after he graduated from high school. One of his most memorable posts was in Varrelbusch , Germany . His time spent in Germany would prove to have a lasting effect on his life. After being discharged from full-time military duty, he served in the Army National Guard and became a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

In 1983, Mr. Flechs received his bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Soon after that, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach conversational English at a college preparatory school in the Federal Republic of Germany. He received his master's degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (German) in 1991 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. On October 30, 1993, he married Julie K. Junge in Lincoln , Nebraska.

Dean was passionate about his Cherokee heritage and dedicated to furthering the educational experiences of minority groups. He held several positions in higher education including admissions, recruitment, retention, and his favorite, multicultural affairs. His experience, drive, and student-oriented approach were major factors in the success of the Native Americans in Biological Sciences (NABS) Program at Oklahoma State University.

Dean had a strong faith and love for the gospel. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Stillwater , Oklahoma . He loved anything related to military aircraft, space flight, and German culture. Dean loved traveling abroad and sampling hot and spicy foods from around the world. Most of all, he loved making a difference in the life of every person who walked through his door.

Dean Anton Flechs passed away on October, 28, 2005, at the age of 49. Dean was a wonderful man and his wry smile and hearty chuckle will be missed by all who knew him.
